Ultrasonic scaler tips, from universal to specialized periodontal and implant designs, use high-frequency vibration with water spray to efficiently remove plaque and calculus while cooling the tip and flushing debris. They are most effective when used with light lateral pressure, keeping the lateral surfaces adapted to the tooth and employing short, overlapping strokes. To maintain efficiency and protect tooth and implant surfaces, tips should be routinely checked with a wear guide and are generally replaced every 6–12 months of regular clinical use or sooner if 2 mm of active length is lost
