  • Jan 25 2012

The results of the 2012 Dental Advisor awards are in ….and DMG has romped home with Top Provisional Material 2012 for LuxaTemp Star, while Luxacore Z has taken a ‘2012 Preferred Products’ award.  Both products are available to Australian dental professionals exclusively from Gunz Dental!

Luxatemp Star - “Great material”

Luxatemp Star advances the Luxatemp provisional material line, providing enhanced strength. It is a self-cured composite for the fabrication of temporary crowns and bridges, inlays, onlays and veneers.   Luxatemp Star is also indicated for the fabrication of long-term temporaries.

The two-component material is based on multifunctional methacrylates and is automatically mixed. Luxatemp Star is fluorescent and is available in shades A1, A2, A3, A3.5, B1, and BL. It is available in 76g automix cartridges with 15 mixing tips and 15-g Smartmix syringes with 10 mixing tips.  Luxatemp Star automix was evaluated by 26 consultants in 586 uses. It received a 91% clinical rating.

Product Features

Luxatemp Star  provides provisional restorations with very good esthetics and excellent polishability. The material dispenses smoothly from the cartridge into the clinician’s matrix of choice. Working time is adequate, even for multiple-unit cases, and setting time in the mouth is quick enough to allow removal after about 1.5 minutes. Upon removal, some sticky residue usually has to be cleaned from the adjacent teeth. Bubbles in the material and voids in the temporaries are minimal, with repair easily accomplished with flowable composite. Consultants noted that the enhanced strength was not relevant for the majority of their needs. They did note that the set material was very hard and sometimes brittle in thin areas. Forty-two percent of consultants reported that Luxatemp Star was better than their current provisional material and 46% reported it was equivalent. Seventy-three percent would switch to the Luxatemp Star and 77% would recommend it.

LuxaCore Z  - Dual - “Closer to nature”

The premium composite for core build-ups and root post cementations is the logical further development of the many times awarded LuxaCore.

LuxaCore Z – Dual cuts like natural dentine, and with its superior material properties, matches the natural tooth closer than any other core build-up material. As the first material in its category, LuxaCore Z - Dual combines true, DMG-patented nano technology and zirconium dioxide, thus featuring further improved compressive strength and ‘cuttability’. The material’s excellent flow properties guarantee optimal adaptation to the cavity walls and root posts. As root post cement, the material’s thin layer thickness of only 20µm is an advantage as well.

LuxaCore Z is easily and automatically mixed and dosed, and can be applied immediately.

Icon

REALITY also awarded 4 stars and a ‘Reality’s Choice’ rating to DMG’s Icon, the world-first product for caries infiltration, for the product's “practical suitability”.  Furthermore, treatment with Icon was judged as best preserving method in early caries. ("Best Conservative Treatment for Incipient Lesions").

Icon offers a tooth-friendly option for the treatment of early caries, in place of drilling.  The infiltration method is based on a special, highly fluid resin, which penetrates and closes the affected tooth structure at the early stage of caries. Drilling is no longer necessary, sparing healthy tooth structure.
