Ionosit® MicroSpand
|
|
Winning the Battle Against Post-operative Sensitivity
New from DMG Hamburg comes Ionosit® MicroSpand
. More than just a liner; it is a single component micro-expansion
agent that expands to compensate polymerisation shrinkage
of composite resins.
Because composite resin forms a strong bond to the underlying
bonding agents, the shrinkage during curing is thought to
pull the bonding agent away from the dentine.
This "Zipper" effect is thought to create a space
between the bonding agent and the tooth, allowing micro-leakage
and causing sensitivity.
Ionosit MicroSpand has a controlled expansion, which counteracts
shrinkage. It eliminates internal stresses, by preventing
the "Gap formation". With Ionosit MicroSpand micro-leakage
and post-operative sensitivity is avoided.
Ionosit MicroSpand can be used under all types of restorations
including amalgam. It adheres to dentine and composite/amalgam,
seals dentinal tubules, eliminates sensitivity and prevents
recurrent caries all without the use of conventional liners
or bonding agents. This resin ionomer is bacteriostatic, radiopaque
and fluoride releasing and being a light cured material, the
operator is provided with unlimited working time.

D/SENSE2
Hypersensitivity - What is it?
Dentine Hypersensitivity occurs when the tooth enamel wears
away or is removed. The open dentinal tubules (over 30,000
per square millimetre) contain a fluid. Reaction to cold,
sweat, and to a lesser extent, hot, sour and pressure (blowing
air and / or drying the tooth) cause this fluid in the tubules
to move. This movement creates a stimulus of the nerve endings,
which is interpreted as a sharp and sudden pain. This "Hydrodynamic
theory of pain" or "Brannstrom's Theory"
is the most widely accepted cause of Dentine Hypersensitivity.
Who is most likely to suffer from it?
Dentinal Hypersensitivity can happen at any age. It is
most common between the ages of 20 and 30and affects both
males and females equally. Cold is the most common pain
stimulus and 93% of the time the sensitivity is on the facial
surface. Other major causes of dentinal hypersensitivity
are gingival recession and most recently - tooth bleaching.
How D/Sense 2 works
D/SENSER2 works by reacting two clear, colourless inorganic
salt solutions directly on the tooth surface. No mixing
or light curing is required. Apply one liquid on top of
the other, and a double exchange reaction takes place. The
tubules are closed with a microcrystalline complex of four
insoluble salts, plus a potassium salt. It takes less than
two minutes, but the results are both immediate and dramatic.
Clinically tested at a leading university on 160 patients
with a wide range of applications, the success rate was
an incredible 96%+. And it lasts and lasts, providing continuing
relief to 120 days and beyond. If you cover D/SENSER2 with
a crown or permanent restoration, the desensitising effect
can last "forever".

Use D/Sense 2 Routinely
q Under ALL restorative treatments BEFORE you place them
- D/Sense 2 has a film thickness of 3 microns so it will
not interfere with the seating of temporary or permanent
restorations. After testing at Louisiana State University
D/Sense2 has virtually no effect on bond strengths to dentine.
q After Bleaching - Over 50% of patients who undergo whitening
treatment will experience some post op sensitivity. D/Sense
2 can be safely used around soft tissues and will not stain
the teeth.
q Cervical Erosions - D/Sense 2 will not cause adverse reactions
to soft tissues so will effectively desensitise root surfaces.
q After root planing and periodontal treatment - D/Sense2
can be worked subgingivally to reduce discomfort before
and after procedures.
q Classic hypersensitivity - Easily applied by you or your
Hygienist when your patients complain about sensitivity
to cold, pressure and sweet foods.
How well does it work and how long does it last?
In clinical studies* performed at the University of Rome
D/Sense 2 showed a 96% success rate in a wide range of clinical
applications. If D/Sense 2 was placed under a permanent
restoration, the desensitising effect will last as long
as the restoration remains viable. On teeth not covered
by a permanent restoration, relief was found to be effective
for 6 months or longer depending on the habits and the oral
conditions of the patient. Repeat treatments of D/Sense
2 are quick and easy to apply at time of recall or prophy
cleanings.
D/Sense 2 duel action desensitiser is available exclusively
from Gunz Dental in the following kits

Expasyl - Temporary gingival Retraction
System
|
|
After 7 years of research Satelec Pierre Rolland has bought
about the patented Expasyl system - A new technique in Temporary
Gingival retraction. Lecturers, general practioners, prosthodontist
and periodontist were bought together to test what has become
the Expasyl system
Various techniques may be used for sulcular opening in
taking a fixed prosthesis impression; electro-surgery, rotary
curettage, single cord or double cord. Each has its own
indication but all cause lesions of varying extent to the
sulcular periodontium. These particular systems can sometime
be fastidious to the operator and/or painful to the patient,
making anaesthesia necessary.
Expasyl is an innovative system for access to the cervical
margins. Expasyl for temporary gingival retraction causes
no damage to tissue and preserves the epithelial attachment.
It is painless, fast and Reliable, creating a dry operating
field.
The Expasyl system separates the marginal gingiva from
the tooth without damaging the epithelial attachment, in
complete comfort for the patient. It ensures that gingival
retraction can be reversed without damaging the tissue;
therefore anaesthesia is no longer required. The paste is
cleaned away with an air water spray with simultaneous suction:
the periodontium is thus respected.
Expasyl exerts a moderate, calculated pressure on the marginal
gingiva, slightly higher that the pressure the gum exerts
on the tooth: 0.1N/mm2. The space created is about 1mm.
The gum separates once Expasyl has filled the sulcus then
flows away, and no further pressure is required on the epithelial
attachment. Expasyl has a consistency, which is specially
designed not to harm the periodontium, thereby avoiding
the medium-term post-operative phenomena of recession or
bone resorption. When the paste has been cleaned away, the
sulcus is kept open long enough to carry out all types of
operation.
Not only is Expasyl ideal for sulcular opening during impression
taking for fixed prosthesis, it can also be used for gaining
access to cervical margins for restoring class ll and V
cavities, for fitting rubber dam, for periodontology (root
planing etc.) and orthodontics (for fixing brackets). The
retraction is temporary which means the gingiva returns
to its original position after a few minutes, without damage.
With Expasyl, the opening of the sulcus does not cause
bleeding or oozing - two phenomena that make dental impressions
difficult or even impossible to take. The aluminium chloride
contained in its formula provides astringent, haemostatic
properties.
Expasyl is a fast system that saves up to 10 to 15 minutes
per dental impression. Only 15 to 20 seconds are needed
to apply the paste. Depending on the texture of the gum,
gingival retraction occurs between 30 seconds and 2 minutes.
End-result being a dry, wide-open sulcus with a total working
time around 2-2 ½ minutes.
