Seminar content:

This course will provide presentations and hands-on sessions to show how new, hybrid and reciprocating systems can be used in everyday situations as well as more difficult cases (such as calcified canals, curved canals and larger diameter canals). The program will introduce new reciprocating rotary file systems as well as the two very flexible rotary file systems that can be used in these clinical scenarios.

Learning outcomes:

  • To understand how reciprocation techniques differ from rotary preparation techniques
  • To grasp the essentiality of glide path production for best results with reciprocating techniques
  • To understand how to prepare canals to anatomically – appropriate apical sizes
  • To understand how canal calcifications can be overcome to allow preparation with a reciprocating technique
  • To understand how canals prepared to a larger taper with reciprocating methods can be successfully root filled using a “hot” gutta-percha technique
  • To understand the application and advantages of new techniques in endodontic irrigation
  • To understand the use of bioagregates materials in clinical practice

About the Presenters

Photo Peter Duckmanton

Peter Duckmanton is the Senior Staff Specialist in Endodontics at Sydney Dental Hospital and a Clinical Associate Professor with the Faculty of Dentistry where he has taught endodontics for over 20 years. His dental qualifications are from the University of Sydney. On graduation Peter entered the RAAF Dental Service where he was at one time the youngest Senior Dental Officer in the Service. He has most recently been the Federal President of the Australian Society of Endodontology and previously the state president of the NSW Branch of the ASE. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and a Fellow of the International College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy.He has lectured throughout Australia and in the UK and Sweden. He has most recently been involved with epidemiological studies on endodontics in various Australian populations.

Dr Omar Ikram was born in New Zealand and graduated with his Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Otago University in Dunedin, before moving to the UK where he gained significant experience in restorative dentistry and endodontics. In 2009 he completed his specialist training in Endodontics at King’s College, London. Omar currently practices at Specialist Endo Crows Nest in Sydney and Sydney Dental Hospital.

Dr Kurien Mamootil completed his Bachelor of Dental Science from the University of Melbourne in 1994. He completed his Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry in Endodontics also from the University of Melbourne in 2004. He holds the position of Honorary Senior Fellow with the University where he is a part-time demonstrator in the Post-Graduate Endodontic program. He is also an examiner of overseas trained dentists for the Australian Dental Council. He is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and Immediate Past President of the Victorian Branch of the Australian Society of Endodontology. He currently presides as the Victorian Councilor for the Federal ASE. Dr Mamootil maintains a private Endodontic practice in Geelong Victoria.
